He didn’t want me then.... Can I risk my heart now?

Twelve years ago, I thought Mason could be the one, but he wasn’t ready to be tied down, especially not to an omega like me. And when my brother’s sudden death left me raising his little girl, I had to forget all about the man who refused to be there for me. I never expected to see him again, and I couldn’t dream that I’d be his mate. Mason wants to try again, but this time, it’s my turn to reject him.

But the adult Mason is 100 times more considerate than the guy I knew in college, and even though I should protect my heart, I can’t help but start to open up again. Maybe, it really is time for a second chance.

Even if we are ready to give it a shot, a lot of things have happened in the past 12 years. And when our relationship is tested, those years might be too much to overcome....

Mason and River found each other in college, but Mason wasn't ready to acknowledge he'd found his fated mate. After years apart, they find themselves in the same town again, running into each other, like fate giving them a second chance.

Their story was a sweet one, with Izzy being brought in the middle, adding a lightness and fun influence to their lives and relationship. It was a pretty obvious and apparent conflict that occurred, but the story was strong enough, I thought, that it's easy plot didn't detract from the flow. I really enjoyed it.

I love this series! After 10 books every new installment like this one is as good and original like the first ones. In this second-chance, fated-mates love story, Mason and River needed to grow as individuals and as a couple and confront their pasts accepting their previous mistakes to get together and be happy. The story is nice and sweet, with some angst, that made me cry a little but that is buffered by a lot of romance and hot scenes. This is the first audiobook I have ever heard narrated by Mr Stilwell and I really enjoy his reading style, his smooth voice and his management of the emotions and interactions of the characters. Loved it!

What's worse than waiting forever to meet your fated mate? Meeting him too soon and being too immature to treat him right. That is Riv and Mason's past. We see them try to let go of past hurts and overcome it. You really feel for both during this. You understand why Riv wants nothing to do with Mason, but you also feel for Mason's pain. Enjoyable second chance book with really good narration

I enjoyed this sweet second-chance love story. River loved Mason when they were younger. but Mason didn't feel the same attachment. River was heart-broken when Mason blew him off to attend a party, then devastated when he loses his brother and Mason is not there to support him. River moves on while taking care of his niece. River and Mason meet up 12 years later, and the older Mason wants River now. Can River forgive Mason and can they reconnnect, or have the passage of time and River's duties to his niece separated them forever? I loved River and Izzy; Mason took me more time to warm up to. I completely sided with River in his pain and righteous anger, and I appreciated later how he considered the adult Mason and forgave him when he found out what really happened when River's brother died. It didn’t excuse the way Mason treated River when they were in college, by bragging about his sexual conquests when he knew River loved him, but I guess I can give a little leeway for the idiocy of youth.

The narrator suits the story and the delivery was pleasant, well-paced, and emotionally consistent with the characters' feelings.

I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
