Demons are winning. Allies are rebelling. This war isn't what they thought.

The malevolenci that nearly destroyed the Sanctuary in Alterni are back, stronger and more cunning than before.

Magic is no longer new to Esme—it's limitless. Unfortunately, though she's now won their respect, power alone can't calm restless paranormals. Jinn dabble in civilian politics. Fairies demand an impossible return to their home world. Rebel vampires cry slavery. Far too used to the unending war, the paranormals' focus shifts to ancient tensions, and whispers of rebellion sweep through the Order.

But nothing could prepare them for the truth waiting beneath tradition and history. This war isn't only about the Sanctuary—it's a battle for all of creation. And the origins of this war could point the way to its end.

Desperate to rally and end the war at last, Esme and Owen draw old friends and unexpected allies into a search for answers in ancient texts, forgotten caves, and blood memories. Finding the malevolenci's weakness might save them all…but uncovering the truth could tear apart everything the already-fragile Order believes.

Malevolenci, the second edition in the Alt-World Chronicles, is brilliantly written and wholly engaging. The world-building is phenomenal, and I was thoroughly fascinated by how Alt Worlds came to exist. I love the storyline, it's well-plotted, engaging, entertaining with loads of twists and turns. The characters are wonderfully-developed and utterly captivating, I was thoroughly intrigued by them. I'm totally invested in the series, and I can't wait to find out what's next.

An outstanding performance by Sommer Hines, she captured the nuances of the characters, emotions, and animation, literally breathing life into the story. Overall, Malevolenci was a fabulous listen and very entertaining, one I'll highly recommend.

This sequel continues the story seamlessly from book 1, delving into the creation of the Alt Worlds and the truth is truly earth shattering for Esme and Owen. Their world is on the precipice of civil war, Rowan has been murdered, and an Original has returned! This book was a mind twister, and I can't wait to find out what's next in book 3. Sommer Hines narration was wonderful and expressive.

Amazing sequel, can't wait for book 3
