'The decision to publish this book has been very difficult, and taken with heavy hearts ... My reason for writing it is simple: to give an account of the truth ... Writing this memoir has entailed recording some very personal, intimate and emotional aspects of our lives. Sharing these with strangers does not come easily to me, but if I hadn't done so I would not have felt the book gave as full a picture as it is possible for me to give. As with every action we have taken over the last five years, it ultimately boils down to whether what we are doing could help us to find Madeleine. When the answer to that question is yes, or even possibly, our family can cope with anything ... Nothing is more important to us than finding our little girl.'

You won't find a more moving and powerful account of love and loss (Douglas Wight)
Madeleine is not only an impressive and well-written chronicle of a terrible crime, it is a must-read because someone out there knows something (James Murray)
Powerful... Kate's book blazes with the sheer, visceral force of her love for her daughter (Sandra Parsons)
Mrs McCann writes honestly about her torment (Robert Mendick)
It's hard to read these words without wanting to weep (Christina Patterson)
This haunting account makes me rue the day I doubted them (David Jones)
It is high time the McCann haters pushed off... It seems clear that, far from self-justifying, or attention-seeking, this book is what it has always been about for the McCanns - a practical solution to fundraising (Barbara Ellen)
The saddest story I have ever heard... it touches levels of human agony far beyond the reach of everyday journalism (Craig Brown)
This book brought tears to my eyes several times... but despite the tragedy at the heart of the book, there are flashes of humour (Daisy Goodwin)
Deeply moving (Angus McBride)

Kate's agony runs through this book, and I found myself in tears several times while listening. The focus, of course, had to be on the search for Madeleine. All the McCann's want is to find their missing daughter. The Portuguese "investigation" was appallingly sub-standard and the family have faced constant criticism, suspicion and intrusions while still desperately trying to find Madeleine. I sincerely hope that they will be reunited with their beautiful Madeleine soon.

Sorry but I couldn’t get into this book. This is such a tragic awful and sad story. My heart absolutely breaks for kate and gerry, but i just can’t get my head round everyone thought this was ok to leave these kids alone😢 i would always sit on the balcony and have a drink with my husband while my kids were sleeping. I would go not even 1 step away from our apartment… ever. The distance was SO far and doing hourly checks or whatever just isn’t an excuse 😞 nothing would make me leave my children alone anywhere in this world while they slept at whatever age. The thought of my child waking saying “mummy” and I wasn’t there is enough to make me never want to leave them, and i never did. This could have all been avoided if proper care was taken unfortunately 😢💔but it’s done now and my heart breaks for the absolute extreme pain kate&gerry must be going through now and i wish this had never happened 😢💔 its heartbreaking and i pray that one day we all get the answers 🙏🏽😢 take care of your precious family and i pray your pain eases and one day you get the answers 🙏🏽❤️ i am truly devastated by this story. Poor poor maddie 😞💔 xxx

I decided to download this book because I always wondered how Kate mentally deals with such tragedy and uncertainty. I'm sure she carries the weight of guilt with her everyday. I can't imagine the pain she and her family must experience everyday. Especially as they're under constant scrutiny. I think she's done well to manage her emotions to keep focused on the search for her daughter. It must've been so hard writing this book, which hopefully helps towards the search. Keep strong Kate. Keep going!

Keep strong, keep going!

This is a truly amazing book, how a mother who has gone through so much heartache can put it into words.

Such a sad time for the family of Madeline
