'One of the world's finest thriller writers on the top of his game. A Noise Downstairs is a blinder - his best yet'
PETER JAMES

EVERY STEP...
Paul Davis forgets things - he gets confused, he has sudden panic attacks. But he wasn't always like this.

TAKES YOU CLOSER...
Eight months ago, Paul found two dead bodies in the back of a co-worker's car. He was attacked, left for dead, and has been slowly recovering ever since. His wife tries her best but fears the worst...

TO THE TRUTH...
Therapy helps during the days, but at night he hears things - impossible things - that no one else can. That nobody else believes. Either he's losing his mind - or someone wants him to think he is.

Just because he's paranoid doesn't mean it's not happening...

a creepy and compelling standalone.. Barclay expertly weaves together the various plot strands to reach a wholly unexpected conclusion. (Laura Wilson)
cunning.. twist-packed
The king of the thriller returns with this spooky tale of a man recovering from serious trauma who starts to hear noises in the night.
With a tight plot, delivered in short, punchy chapters, it's hard to resist racing through - to the final twist.

Vintage Barclay - an utterly compelling read with a twist you won't see coming. I loved it! (Shari Lapena)
Linwood Barclay's novels - as intelligent as Michael Connelly's, as compelling as Harlan Coben's - never fail to astonish. A Noise Downstairs, his best work yet, is a cobra of a story: smooth, slippery, unnerving . . . and likely to strike when you least expect it. I devoured this book (A.J. Finn)

Over the last 10 years, overall Linwood Barclay has been one of my favorite authors. But recently I'd started to give up hope. His last really decent novel (in my opinion), was Trust your Eyes and every single novel prior to that were absolutely outstanding and gripping page turners, with a bit of humor and twists throughout and at the end that got me every time. I personally found the promise falls trilogy to be awful and just could not get into them.

This one, however, is definitely Linwood back to his best, as good and as gripping as his pre 2014 stuff. Any book that keeps me hooked, and makes me find time to listen to go an listen is always a winner.

Some lovely twists in this one, and when I thought I had it worked out, I was wrong, again. Can't wait for the next one now!

Linwood, welcome back!

A decent yarn but was able to work it all it a bit too easily and I am usually crap at doing that.

Decent Yarn

Linwood Barclay on top form once more.. Great narration too, a real mix of characters, each with depth

Narration was good but women’s voices a bit weak and annoying. Men’s voices fantastic and a great range.

Story was unpredictable and didn’t see that coming, caught by red herrings. But didn’t find any of the characters particularly likeable.

Good story, but characters unrepeatable
