War rages, loyalties are tested, and love is more perilous than ever in this thrilling and eagerly awaited sequel to the breakout hit Metal Slinger.

It's been four years since Jovie betrayed Acker, fracturing their relationship. Her decision to take King Edmond's magic, sparing his life at Acker's request, has sparked a brutal war. The Kenta and Strou forces ally against the Roison and Alaha, with Maile perched dangerously on the edge of their battles.

Jovie is determined to keep the innocent Maile people from a conflict she helped start―even if it means suppressing the Matching Bond and sacrificing any hope of repairing her relationship with Acker. Yet, visions of him continue to haunt her dreams.

Acker is resigned to aid in his father's war while in an arranged marriage with a wife who detests him. Though still pained by Jovie's deception, he can't stop his thoughts from turning to her. And Acker has found a way to slip into Jovie's dreams despite her attempts to stifle the Matching Bond. There he watches her, torn between his loyalties and desire.

When he discovers the chilling reason behind the return of his father's magic, as well as Edmond's dangerous new alliance, Acker must finally decide which war he wants to fight: the one for his king or the one for his heart.

Narrated in duet style.

This sits about 4.2/4.3 ⭐'s for me, really enjoyable once again I liked that quite a bit was summed up by the end of this but that it's obvious where the next books focus will be and I'll definitely be along for that ride, I love the little twists dotted about, I really should have re read/listened to Metal Slinger again before going in to this as I realised there was so much I hadn't remembered so just a heads up for anyone going in to it if it's been a while since Metal Slinger you might want a refresh first, I really enjoyed the narration for this one too, great choice of narrators and in duet which is my favourite style.

Felt a bit rushed but to be honest I didn’t mind, their love story had to have a happy ending. ♥️

Finally!

I liked this book, I just didn't love it. I really enjoyed following two different FMCs on their different journeys, it just felt a little long and drawn out. I'm glad I listened in audio as the narrator is one of my favourites.

Good story, love the narration!

Light Wielder is the second and final installment of this duology. I prefer duologies—and interconnected series even more—because the format keeps the narrative moving without dragging out the main characters' storyline for too long.
The book is a decent read and gets four stars because it is action-packed, has good banter, and features solid secondary characters.

However, a few specific elements kept it from being better:

Handling of the MMC's Actions: There were moments at the end of the first book where I really disliked the Male Main Character (MMC), particularly when he struck the Female Main Character (FMC). My main issue in this second book is that his toxic actions and major betrayals are largely overlooked or excused by the story for flimsy, frustrating reasons. The narrative seemed to justify behavior that actually required real accountability.

The FMC's Pacing and Agency: The middle portion of this book was frustrating. The story begins with good development for the FMC, showcasing her leadership skills and growing power. Unfortunately, she is then sidelined and becomes too passive for a long stretch—spending too much time sleeping, shackled, or apprehended instead of driving the plot forward. Her strength was really only visible at the very beginning and the very end.

Underutilized Magic: It felt pointless to give her such immense power only to have her use it roughly three times across the entire series.

Despite these issues, it was an okay duology and worth a recommendation. I am interested in the third book to see how the world looks through the perspective of different characters

A Decent 4-Star Conclusion with Some Frustrating Elements
