The Luke Sackville Crime Thriller series continues…The stakes could not be higher

Ex-DCI Luke Sackville investigates a link between a senior executive and a large bet, little realizing that what he is seeing is the tip of the iceberg. Beneath the surface sinister forces are at work, and when he learns of a tragedy following a rugby match Luke spots a possible connection. He sets his team to work and they uncover a gambling syndicate whose cold and ruthless leader will stop at nothing to achieve his aims. It becomes a race against time as they battle to unmask the guilty.

Lethal Odds is the fifth book in the series of crime thrillers featuring ex-DCI Luke Sackville and his Ethics Team. It’s perfect for fans of JD Kirk, LJ Ross, Jack Gatland, Alex Smith, Rachel McLean and JM Dalgliesh.

Loved the narration of Samuel James, who keeps you wanting to listen and brings this thriller to your ears. Perfect

Ex DCI Luke is now Head of Ethics at Filchers, a business sourcing company in Bath.

While watching a rugby match. Luke is asked to look into a hedge fund which is producing startling figures. Luke and his team of Sam, Helen, Maj and Josh find themselves immersed into a world of online gambling, spot fixing and murder. Also trying to find the dangerous Mr Smith.

There is plenty of humour great characters. An excellent fast paced thriller.

I have read all the books in the series and particularly like the plot lines which tackle modern-day crimes. They have the familiar elements of crime fiction but the main characters work in the ethics department of a large business, which is refreshingly different.

Fast-paced and humorous, Lethal Odds builds on the back-stories of the characters in the ethics team with another tale full of suspence and intrigue.

A fun easy read

I’ve been binge listening to this series and really enjoying the storylines and characters. This one includes some characters who are professional cyclists and ride on the UCI World Tour. Watching and supporting pro cycling is a major passion of mine. I didn’t feel that the cyclists in the novel were at all believable and gave the impression that not much research had been carried out beforehand.
That’s the only gripe and one that is very specific to me.
Excellent narration.

Very good

Actually it was the lack of said GSR that irked a bit. The whole set up of the murder suicide and the mention of positive and negative evidence totally failed to mention it. The way it sounded in the telling, there would of been a bullet gone in at the wrong angle, a lack of scorch around the head wound and no GSR on the husband's hands. I might be wrong but the no mention or explanation irritated me for the rest of the book

Gunshot residue

I keep thinking this Luke Sackville series cannot get any better but once again Mr Richards has proved me wrong. This book 5 "Lethal Odds" is superb. It is well researched and well plotted with Luke and his team being called in to investigate irregularities in a hedge fund and Online gambling and spot fixing, all of which lead to murder. All the regular characters are there and it is really necessary to have read the previous books in the series so that you can follow their development and relationships. The story is a bit dark in places but there is also the humour that Steve builds in to all his stories. I'm looking forward to "Sow the Wind" already, roll on book 6. The talented Sam James excels himself once again with the narration and helps make this one of my favourite books of the year.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review voluntarily.

Brilliant!
