Ard and his companions are being hunted by King Martin, who has gone completely scorched earth on his own kingdom in an effort to root them out. The lovable mage finds a quiet spot in the uninhabitable wilds of Garrish to train his soul magic—only nothing ever goes quite according to Ard’s plan.

Driven out by King Martin’s escalating mania, Ard must now go through the king to reach the goddess behind it all.

Funny, full of cliffhangers and drama. It’s ardtastic! The story goes on, and never rest with its turns and twist

Ardtastic!

this feels like a culmination book, but is also clearly setting the scene for the next arc. the harem is big enough that some members are getting sidelined a little. also, Aard is a bit frustrating in his denseness here, as he misses connections and seems to not be that imaginative with his powers.

there are some things set out where I was expecting a clever use of soul magic or for Aard to seize more control but it fell a little flat at times, and the showdown towards the end felt almost too quick and didn't feel like anything he'd done with the soul had had any real impact.

beyond that, the banter is excellent as always, the characters distinct and the narrators do a fantastic job. I look forward to the next phase, as I feel this could be another Dragons Justice length story!

a great buildup and excellent narration

The two narrators are fantastic together, it's very easy to listen to. Ard is an habitual winner with the arrogance you'd expect with it. I keep expecting him to take a loss but that isn't this king of story. There's no bumps in his road he's just going to keep pulling gorgeous women and monologuing to his enemies. The narrators make this series and make it very easy to follow.

outstanding performance, shallow but fun story.
