Online romance fraud is a problem across the globe. It causes financial and emotional devastation, yet many people refuse to take it seriously. This is the story of one middle-aged woman in a cardigan determined to understand this growing phenomenon.

No other woman has had so many online romances – from Keanu Reeves to Brad Pitt to Prince William – and Becky Holmes is a favourite among peacekeeping soldiers and oil rig workers who desperately need iTunes vouchers. By winding up scammers and investigating the truth behind their profiles, Becky shines a revealing, revolting and hilarious light on a very shady corner of the internet.

Featuring first-hand accounts of victims, examples of scripts used by fraudsters, a look into the psychology of fraud and of course plenty of Becky’s hysterical interactions with scammers, this is a must-read for anyone who needs a reminder that Keanu Reeves is NOT in love with them.©2024 Becky Holmes (P)2023 W. This is a dfascinating, sometimes funny but mostly shocking account of people who have been victim of romance scams and tragically lost vast amounts of money. It's frightening how widespread it is which is clearly because the fraudsters know they are likely to get away with it. The only thing that I think the author could have gone into more of is why women who seem other wise switched on and intelligent would really believe that someone could fall on love with them without even meeting them. To me that seems impossible but I don't want to sound complacent as we never know when we might be targeted. Well done to the author for raising awareness of this heartless crime.

Everyone should read this

A compassionate deep dive into romance fraud, mixed with investigations into how/why scammers do it and some of the hilarious ways she tries to waste the *#+*’s time when they have tried to scam her on the socials. It’s not just celeb impersonators who try either - people claiming they’re pilots, UN peacekeepers, doctors… any type of person really as long as they get under your skin and in your mind. A brilliant read 💛🩷

Very well written, and superbly narrated by the author, we are taking through the mirky world of romance scams sensitively but with humour at the expense of the scammers only. Highly recommended
