From the simple setting of his own barber shop, Jayber Crow, orphan, seminarian, and native of Port William, recalls his life and the life of his community as it spends itself in the middle of the 20th century.

Surrounded by his friends and neighbors, he is both participant and witness as the community attempts to transcend its own decline. And meanwhile Jayber learns the art of devotion and that a faithful love is its own reward.

I have listened to this twice and will no doubt listen to it again. It is soft and gentle, it is a narrative about society and cultures lost, but also a beautiful love story.

Beautiful and Poignant.

I knew nothing about this book beforehand
I loved it. It is one of the most beautiful books I ever read. It’s just like sitting listening to someone telling their life story
It weaves about as memory does without ever losing its thread or wandering into dry uninteresting passages . Always interesting it deepens as it goes . Full of humanity ! And love for the world . Entirely without salaciousness. What a treat !

Beautiful Storyteller
