A brand-new recording of the classic work, narrated by Kathryn Drysdale, star of Bridgerton and The Windsors.
An unforgettable story of murder, mystery and passion, from the bestselling author of Rebecca.
No human being could live in this wasted country and remain like other people; the very children would be born twisted . . .

After the death of her mother, Mary Yellan crosses the windswept Cornish moors to Jamaica Inn, the home of her Aunt Patience. But she finds Patience a changed woman, cowering before her domineering, vicious husband Joss. Behind its crumbling walls, the inn harbours a dark secret - and Mary is soon dragged into a dangerous world of smuggling and murder. Disturbed by her powerful attraction to Joss's younger brother, and in fear of her life, Mary is forced to cross her own moral line to save herself.
A dark and gripping gothic tale, masterfully written by one of the twentieth century's best loved storytellers.

I loved this story set in Cornwall’s dark past. Daphne describes it perfectly & draws you in to the beauty of the Helford & across the dramatic Bodmin Moor.
A fabulous story of wrecking & smuggling

Terrible narration. No understanding of the text, of syntax, meaning and some words. Appalling characterisation of some characters and accent.

Fabulous story. Brilliant writing.

Finally got round to listening to this with not much time to read. She really was a lady of dark writings. If you want an uplifting happy book this is not it, it’s almost on a depressing par with Wuthering Heights. There is no light in the darkness. However, it’s a classic and I enjoyed it, well narrated too.

Dark and disturbing

The atmospheric descriptions of the Cornish coast and moorland are what really stood out to me in this book, but I was equally gripped by the intense plot.
I've put this firmly as number 1 in my all time books and I'm off to explore more of Daphne Du Maurier's work!

Captivated from Chapter 1
