Simple, honest advice - a real toolkit for life (Jamie Oliver, writer, presenter and chef)
The book women wish men would read (Dawn O'Porter, writer and presenter)
This is the kind of book many men wish they'd had years ago. It's honest, accessible and doesn't overcomplicate things - it just helps you understand what's going on and to find a way forward that feels manageable. It cuts through the noise and actually speaks to men in a way that lands. A really important and timely read. It's certainly a book I wish I'd had earlier in my life - especially as someone who hasn't always been quick to admit when something's not right, or to ask for help (Jimmy Doherty, presenter of 'Jimmy's Farm')
If you've ever said 'I'm fine' when you're not, this is for you (Rick Stein, restaurateur/chef)
So many men say they're fine when they're not - this book gets it. It's honest, down-to-earth, and exactly what men need to help them open up and feel better. I think this book will help so many men (Andrew 'Beef' Johnson, golfer)
If you ever hear a man say 'I'm fine' but know he isn't, this is the best thing you can give him, and read yourself. It's honest, compassionate and could make all the difference. We have to be there for each other, and this book paves the way (Candice Brown, baker and influencer)
Give this jargon-free gem to the men in your life; Peter's insight is invaluable (Olly Smith, wine expert)
Everything men need to know when life feels stuck, without ever setting foot in therapy. Straightforward, relatable, and helps men (and women!) see things in a whole new way (Kat Farmer, fashion influencer)
Straight-talking, practical and genuinely useful, without the therapy speak (Raymond Blanc, restaurateur/chef)
It is really important that we talk about these things and this book is a really good place to start (Dan Walker, broadcaster and presenter)
Every man needs to read this - straight-talking, practical and genuinely useful (Robert Wilson, Chair of Creative Scotland, Co-owner of Nelson’s, Co-founder of X Muse Vodka)
Buy this for the men in your life. They may not ask for it, but they need it (Geraldine Dufort-Ravier, Director-General for Human Resources and Security, European Commission)
He won't book a session. He might not read the whole thing. But a few pages of this might just land (Tom Gilbey, The Wine Guy)
A powerful and much-needed book. In hospitality we're always looking after others, this shows you how to look after yourself too. Everyone should read it (José Pizarro, restaurateur/chef)

This book will definitely help anyone who might be struggling. It’s like going to the gym but for the mind. The content is very helpful and very clearly put. He sounds like a kind person who puts the listener first, and he’s non-patronising which really helped. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking to sort their head out.

A way to stay sane

Most men aren’t ready to acknowledge they might need help let alone be brave or desperate enough to enter therapy. Probably and hopefully most of us won’t ever need it.

However most of us suppress feelings and emotions, adopt certain ‘expected’ behaviours in the work place, bottle things up, and deal with stress through an often calamitous mixture of silence and a short fuse, especially at home!

‘I’m Fine (but not really) by Dr Peter Meades hints and encapsulates through its title that it understands what we as men are, how we think and the behaviours we exhibit.

It doesn’t disappoint in this respect but more importantly it explains why - and it probably isn’t why you thought!

Easy for us short attention span blokes to stay engaged and structured insights help us to understand. If you want to move beyond that to taking some action there are plenty of practical ‘Try This’ exercises which make sense.

I don’t think I need therapy but learning more about men and myself has led me to cutting myself a bit more slack - we are our own harshest critics.

It’s also the only book I can recall where I have revisited a few of the insights.

Picking a book up twice?? Unheard of!

At last - something useful for all men!

This is a truly helpful, powerful and much-needed book. Peter approaches psychological wellbeing with honesty, compassion and real understanding, drawing on decades of experience working with clients and managing teams. He provides practical insights, encouragement and genuine hope for anyone who might be struggling or hopes to understand themselves better. It's a book that reminds us that looking after our mental wellbeing is just as important as attending to our physical health. I believe this book will help so many people to understand themselves better and those they care about. It help people feel less alone, and to face life's challenges with greater confidence. An important read that deserves a wide audience.
