A corker! So binge listening audiobook and us up there with Where The Crawdads Sing. 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Struggled to get into this and found my mind wandering a bit. Writing was good in parts and some great descriptions of the people and location, but felt like it finished very abruptly so was left feeling a bit disappointed

I was gripped by this from the very first page. It is a tough and quite often brutal book, but at the heart of it there is a love and search for redemption. The characters are well drawn and the performances as brilliant.. The Southern American accent can easily descend into pastiche, however in this audiobook both Tom Stechschulte and Kate Forbes bring all the characters to life with each nuance and cadence of their speech. Leah Weiss creates a vivid atmosphere and even I as a Welsh middle aged man could see and even smell the Appalachian Mountains. Truly remarkable debut.
