From the International Number 1 Bestselling Author of the DCI Ryan Mysteries. Hysteria is the second instalment in Ross' brand new Dr Alex Gregory series, narrated by actor Hugh Dancy.

Recently returned from his last case in Ireland, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the French police that he can’t ignore. It’s Paris fashion week and some of the world’s most beautiful women are turning up dead, their faces slashed in a series of frenzied attacks while the world’s press looks on. Amidst the carnage, one victim has survived but she’s too traumatised to talk. Without her help, the police are powerless to stop the killer before he strikes again – can Gregory unlock the secrets of her mind, before it’s too late? Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Parisian landscape.

I was so looking forward to this second book in L J Ross’s new series about Dr Alexander Gregory but I’m afraid to say that it just didn’t grip me. Fairly early in the book I guessed what might have happened (I won’t go into detail because of spoilers). I didn’t guess the whole of it but was right on three or four points. Hugh Dancy is an excellent narrator, his French accent is really good but I found myself zoning out and having to recap having lost track of the storyline. I will try the next one which I believe is due out in February but hope that DCI Ryan will be back with his team in a new, full length book. I’m afraid Dr Gregory is coming in second best for me. Sorry !

Another excellent book in this series with again an unforgettable twist at the end. LJ Ross really makes you feel that you are living the story with her description. Totally different writing style to her DCI Ryan series that I also thoroughly enjoy.

I believe this to be the best of all his books I have read so far. A complex story based around a profiler with a great talent for his work. The author shows a great understanding for the complexities of the mind .
