A gripping alternative history thriller set in the Second World War, from the internationally acclaimed and bestselling author of the Bernie Gunther novels.

Autumn 1943. Hitler knows he cannot win the war: now he must find a way to make peace. FDR and Stalin are willing to negotiate; only Churchill refuses to listen. The upcoming Allied Tehran conference will be where the next steps - whatever they are - will be decided.

Into this nest of double- and triple-dealing steps Willard Mayer, OSS agent and FDR's envoy to the conference. His job is to secure the peace that the USA and Hitler now crave. The stakes couldn't be higher.

Showcasing Philip Kerr's brilliant research and masterful plotting at its best, Hitler's Peace has never before been published in the UK and is a fitting coda to the career of one of the masters of the historical thriller.

I wasn’t going into this book expecting it to be historically accurate, it’s a fiction book so expect it to be fictional. It’s not a bad book and overall I enjoyed it.

The story seemed to build up for a long time and then seemed to rush to a finish in the last few chapters. Often this is a good thing but in this case it just seemed like the author had run out of story so just seemed to end it.

The main character also seemed to become less and less plausible as the story progresses as he seems to become the confident and saviour of everyone.

Shame as it had a good build up and I enjoyed most of the book.

Ok but rushed ending

Good feel for the period, some excellent twists. Good play on the paranoia of a separate peace deal during WW2, which continued right to the end in reality. Kerr’s detective series which examines Germany before, during and after the war, is also worth reading

I enjoyed this book until the last 4 chapters. I could go along with the inclusion of real characters from history populating the story. For the first part of the book this worked really well - FDR, Schellenberg & Powell rubbing shoulders with the main character. However, the book turned towards ‘alternative’ history of WW2 and a weak finale. This was a shame as there was a great much shorter novel in there somewhere.

Great first part. Poor finish

Very interesting premise with real historical characters liberally sprinkled throughout. As usual narration was very good.
