When Mahony returns to Mulderrig, a speck of a place on Ireland's west coast, he brings only his handsome face, a photograph of his long-lost mother, and a determination to do battle with the village's lies. Mahony also somehow wakes the dead from their graves, with their foggy memories and hidden stories, floating greyly amongst the unseeing living. No one though - living or dead - will be able to guess what happened to the teenage mother who abandoned him as a baby.©2016 Jess Kidd (P)2016 W.F. Compelling story narrated with warmth and humour. The magic and fantasy are subsumed in the overwhelming reality of the protagonist's journey. Will listen to this again and again.

Mesmerising

I absolutely loved this book. It made me laugh, cry and want to read it all over again. I love the warmth from this book, it has real heart. I will be reading more of Jess Kidd’s books as this has become a favourite. The narration is top notch too. Very entertaining and well worth a read/listen.

Heartwarming, heartbreaking and hilarious

The story is well thought out, well paced and sufficiently unusual and humorous to make it something totally different from any other book I've listened too.
Great narration also.

A truly enjoyable listen from start to finish.

I came across Jess Kidd by accident and downloaded her book, Jars of things. It was a gripping Victorian detective thriller which had me guessing.
I then read The Hoarder which was also a gripping, twist and turn thriller.
This book did not disappoint. He’d really knows how to write a page turner

Another cracking book by Jess Kidd

Loved reading first and and then listening to this book about 3 years apart. Beautiful writing. Mad story but brilliantly told.

Great in paper and audio form
