Alissa never believed in magic. But then she went to the Hold, a legendary fortress where human Keepers once learned magic from enigmatic Masters. Under the tutelage of the last surviving Master, Alissa discovered that she had inherited her father’s magical ability.

But the Hold is ruled by Bailic, the renegade Keeper who seized the First Truth, a book of magic he will use to harness the might of the city of the dead and wreak a war of total devastation. The book has thwarted Bailic’s every attempt to access it, while it continually calls to Alissa—who must summon all her will to resist it. For if she gives in to the First Truth’s ultimate power and knowledge, she will be utterly changed—and the man she loves could be lost to her forever.

This is the second book in the Truth Series by Dawn Cook, who also writes under the pen name Kim Harrison.

Excellent story, couldn't help but get enthralled. Author leaves you wanting more and with such defined characters, each individual was then brought to life by the skill of the superb narrator.

Page turner

Excellent, light-hearted read. The story warms your heart space once you have started reading the series. You can’t put the books down. They are that good Screen curtain

Excellently read

Although I enjoyed the first book considerably felt the story dragged early on until almost half way through. Glad stuck with it now as this second book really takes off storywise & brings together lots of threads from the first book. Performance continues to be brilliant as was in the 1st, so I hope the same reader will be doing the rest of the series as I'm now fully committed! In this 2nd book of the series new character "Lodesh" is introduced whose great fun & a real "one!"

Better & Better!
