Being a mercenary has made Sophia an expert at kicking butt, and her heritage has made her a professional at hiding in plain sight. Sophia is Fireborn, the supernatural community's public enemy number one. Fireborns have the ability to absorb magic - a gift that turns them into insane, power-hungry murderers.

After years on the run, Sophia and her sister have finally found a home for themselves and jobs at the Mercenary Guild. Killing monsters may be hard work, but she doesn't need magic to do it. And as long as she keeps her powers under wraps, they're safe.

When a super powerful, super sexy mage comes into her life with a job she can't refuse, all Sophia wants to do is run and hide. But she's sick of running. Too bad this job is connected to her in ways she never imagined. Not to mention "Mr. Tall, Dark, and Trouble" has picked up on the fact that she's not all she appears to be. And if he keeps digging, this job will be the least of her worries....

A well written and very well read book. There is angst across the book, but the main character slowly gets more confident. Her friends are very funny and the dialogues are snarky and fast passed

A good Fantaromance

This is my first book by Ashley Meira. The plot was somewhat interesting and the characters had a bit of depth. Some (but definitely not all) of the banter between the characters was amusing even if they acted a good 5 years younger than their stated ages. Be warned though, this is definitely just setting the stage for the rest of the series. There's not even a hint of resolution at the end of the book. All in all, it wasn't brilliant but it passed the time while I was doing housework/running errands. I'll listen to the next book in the series because it is included in the plus catalogue. I probably wouldn't spend a credit on it.

Okay but not great

Although Sophia has a secret she doesn’t want to use it for evil . Although she doesn’t want to fall in love with Adam she clearly does . Good characters, great evolving story . Looking forward to seeing who snow is ?

Wicked Magic

I think this was likely a fun book with a lot of good banter and humour. But the narrator reading out every single sentence in exactly the same way mate it impossible to tell. It honestly sounds like it was a robot reading this rather than a human being.

Horribly monotonous narrator
