A story of anarchists, Feds, gangs and Gilded Age mystery, the third thrilling instalment of the Ingo Finch crime series is perfect for fans of Abir Mukherjee, Philip Kerr and C J Sansom.

To solve this case, only an outsider will do… Ingo Finch faces his biggest challenge yet.
New York, 1904 – over a thousand are dead after the sinking of the General Slocum, a pleasure steamer full of German immigrants out for a day on the East River. The community is devastated, broken, in uproar. With a populist senator preying on their grievances, a new political force is unleashed, pushing America to ally with Germany in any coming war.

Nine months later, Ingo Finch arrives in Manhattan, now an official British agent. Tasked with exposing this new movement, he is caught in a deadly game between Whitehall, Washington, Berlin… and the Mob. Not everything in the Big Apple is as it seems. For Finch, completing the mission is one thing; surviving it quite another…

The story was reasonable, but seemed more like a vehicle for some useful history on American Politics and New York life in the early 1900's

A ripping yarn, however, felt a little threadbare in places, compared to the previous two books.

Excellent narration.

I got this as it was free on Plus and I also listened to previous Jeff Dawson SA book. Not a book I would have chosen but I actually really enjoyed it mainly because of Jonathan's usual superb narrating,a genius.I think seeing his name encouraged me to get book

Jonathan Keebles narration

Jonathan Keeble brings to life great books.... and even, not so great. Jeff Dawson's Indigo Finch stories started off quite well. This latest adventure is somewhat far fetched and overly paced. Certainly keeps you moving along but at break neck speed. Far too fast to even believe at times. However, it is what it is. Based on some facts it certainly agood yarn. I will give this a three star for the story in the hope the next adventure has a bit more "verve".

Another great narration.

I enjoyed the first book in this series, set in South Africa, I though that the plot held together quite well and there weren't TOO many coincidences. Not as many anyhow as there were in the second one which was still believable, ish. However, this third one has the air of desperation about it, like a journalist who has been given a deadline and writes any old drivel in order to get paid. So much description in the book that one feels it is there to cover the huge holes in the plot, coincidences? Good heavens poor old Captain Finch is tripping over them on a seeming daily basis. I note at the end that Keeble let's us know that Annie will be returning in Book 4 (Kerching) because she is suddenly a part of the plot again and her husband a seeming baddy? I read David Walliams to my kids and cannot stand his work but some of them hang together better than this.

Getting worse as the series progresses
