Detective Inspector Jack Frost knelt down beside the tiny body. Who did this to you, sonny? he asked, his face tight with compassion. The boy was eight years old, bound and gagged, and stripped naked. He had been dead for some seven or eight hours.

Frost should have been on holiday, he had sneaked back into the station late at night to help himself to some of Divisional Commander Mullett's cigarettes and this case had been dumped on him as no other officers were available. And then another boy is reported missing. The following day, the ransom demand: £250,000 or the boy dies like the first.

Coarse and insubordinate, fearless and intuitive, D.I. Jack Frost stumbles from crisis to crisis as he tries to cope with a child-stabbing pervert, the discovery of a decomposing body in a coal bunker, a suspicious suicide, an equally suspicious burglary and the abduction of a teenage girl.

Frost's a loveable rogue but his crudeness can grate at times, then you love him again. Wingfield is great at weaving so many stories together.

Well paced and performed narration.

Very strange narration, frost was made to sound very weak---story brilliant --
Frost would have sounded better with Cassidy voice more solid

Fantastic story, really enjoyed it, t only negative is that the narration does an awful job of frosts voice and speech, makes him sound so weird...the other stories narrated by others are much better in that regard

Great story, narration of Frost a bit grating

The story is interesting and the author cleverly pulls the different threads of the plot together to reach a satisfying conclusion. It was slightly irritating that some of the characters seemed to share the same shortlist of swear words and use them over and over again. I did not like the way the women characters were treated, or spoken about - there is nothing PC about this book. This narrator uses an annoying whiny voice for Frost’s character but does not put enough variety into some of the other voices to easily distinguish one from another.

Same old Frost

The most often read complaint in reviews is about bad. Aeration. Doesn’t anyone listen before the audible book is made available. The brilliant Frost is reduced to a strangled, nasal abomination
