Simon, Jane and Barney, enlisted by their mysterious great uncle, arrive in a small coastal town to help recover a priceless golden grail stolen by the forces of evil, the Dark. They are not at first aware of the strange powers of another boy brought to help, Will Stanton—nor of the sinister significance of the Greenwitch, an image of leaves and branches that for centuries has been cast into the sea for good luck in fishing and harvest.
Their search for the grail sets into motion a series of disturbing, sometimes dangerous events that, at their climax, bring forh a gift that, for a time at least, will keep the Dark from rising.©2007 Susan Cooper; (P)2007 Random House, Inc. I loved The Dark is Rising series when I was a kid. As a 51 year old I am revisiting these books like old friends. I am finding them to be narrated well and in keeping with the style the books.

A book series from my childhood

This was is my favourite book from The Dark is Rising sequence, and Alex Jennings is a very good narrator.

There are a couple of instances where the wrong word has been used but my main problem with this audiobook is that the chapter breaks are not in the right places. The reading has been arbitrarily split into six roughly equal ‘chapters’, which don’t correspond to the thirteen chapters of the book.

This means that setting the sleep timer to « end of chapter » means it finishes in the middle of a book chapter.

Great reading of a much loved story, but chapter breaks all wrong.

This is the 3rd installment in The Dark is Rising series and I just couldn't stop listening! The Greenwitch story is steeped in myth and legend and I love the amount of detail the author goes into. I can't wait until I listen to the next book :)

Another riveting tale
