Özet

One crossed wire, three dead bodies and six bottles of bleach. Seth Beauman can't sleep. He stays up late, calling strangers from his phonebook, hoping to make a connection, while his wife, Maeve, sleeps upstairs. A crossed wire finds a suicidal Hadley Serf on the phone to Seth, thinking she is talking to The Samaritans.

But a seemingly harmless, late-night hobby turns into something more for Seth and for Hadley, and soon their late-night talks are turning into day-time meet-ups. And then this dysfunctional love story turns into something altogether darker, when Seth brings Hadley home…

And someone is watching …

Eleştirmen yorumları

'There is a vivid – almost cinematic – quality to the writing. It is intense and makes for uncomfortable yet compulsive reading.' (News of the World)
'I was blown away by this gripping book. I sense Carver will break out of genre boundaries and become a literary voice to be reckoned with.' (Sarah Pinborough, bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes)

Fabulous novel I will keep for another time and recommend to friends and family - although there is substantial sexual content (a bit too much sometimes) it is pertinent to this dark, twisty tale but completely unsuitable for younger minds. Concentration is essential as there are multiple complex characters that all play their part and would be easy to become more than a little lost. Narration is spot on and as that is almost as important to me as is the story, I was a happy listener.

Absolutely loved it

In a crowded genre this is a fresh voice that definitely needs to be heard if you are a fan of sexually graphic and gruesomely intense thrills. It definitely tips its hat to 'American Psycho' and other such nihilist killer thrillers but in a particularly English way.
I started the next Will Carver novel ('Nothing Important Happened Today') straight afterwards and the theme of cult suicides seems by contrast, like light relief!

Sick, Twisted and Very Addictive

Loved it..................it was gritty/edgy and well written/narrated. My only gripe was that there are just soooooooo many short chapters. But well worth a listen

Great book..................

This book shouldn’t work, it’s an odd story, with odd characters, but somehow it does work. It’s draws you in and you want to/have to finish it.

Odd but reels you in
