Özet

JAMES BOND MUST STOP A GOLD-OBSESSED MILLIONAIRE AND THE HEIST OF THE CENTURY

Auric Goldfinger is the richest man in England – though his wealth can’t be found in banks. He’s been hoarding vast stockpiles of his namesake metal, and it has attracted the suspicion of Bond’s superiors at MI6.

Sent to investigate, Bond uncovers an ingenious gold-smuggling scheme, as well as Goldfinger’s most daring caper yet: Operation Grand Slam, a heist so audacious it could bring down the world economy and put the fate of the West in the hands of SMERSH. Only 007 can stop the enigmatic millionaire and his murderous mania for gold.

We've mostly all seen the film but the book is so much more. I read this some 40yrs ago and enjoyed it so much. This time around as an audiobook takes me there once again. Espionage never goes out of favour so a well written book is timeless.

Such a seminal work.

The story was entertaining, moved at a good pace, and it offers a different rhythm of James Bond than the one we are used from the later films.
Great narration, having the same actor doing all the characters in a distinctive, competent way helps focusing on the story. His cool, reflexive narration of James Bond was a plus to the story.

Entertaining story, great narration

Another great story by Ian Fleming. However, the first in chronological order of the Bond books I have read so far which do not measure up to the film.
The Goldfinger Film was possible the best Bond ever (although Dr No was close!). The book and film are quite different. The book developed the characters better, was perhaps more believable and superb for its time.
Any Bond film:book but will love it.
The characters are turned around in the book which fascinated me. The narration was good and I loved Odd Job’s voice!

It goes along quite well and then it gets turned up to infinity and the ludicrous Fort Knox plot doesn't fit or follow the earlier story.

Ridiculous plot
