God Is Disappointed in You is for people who would like to read the Bible...if it would just cut to the chase. Stripped of its arcane language and interminable passages, every book of the Bible is condensed down to its core message, in no more than a few pages each.

Written by Mark Russell with cartoons by New Yorker cartoonist Shannon Wheeler, God Is Disappointed in You is a frequently hilarious, often shocking, but always accurate retelling of the Bible, including the parts selectively left out by Sunday School teachers and church sermons.

Irreverent yet faithful, this book is a must-listen for anyone who wants to see past the fog of religious agendas and cultural debates to discover what the Bible really says.

Obviously the narrative can become dry in places (it is the Bible after all) but on a whole Russell manages to keep even the dullest passages entertaining and witty. An enjoyable listen!

Found Russell's writing very funny.

Is told in a way that makes a dull subject very interesting and can be funny.

Great listen to A summary of each of the books of the Bible. The narrator has the right amount of enthusiasm and character driven vocalisations for the funny stories. It's a pity that you can't see the cartoons as they kind of big them up at the start of the book. Maybe to include as a downloadable PDF or set of jpegs? Otherwise enjoyed very much and even learnt a little bit.

First time I've gone through the bible

I wondered, as a student of theology - I've been one for well over forty years - what I was going to find as I listened to this book. I was taken back to college days and remembered my Old Testament lecturer, who some thought irreverent for his sometime humorous, sometime irreverent whistle-stop recounting of the biblical narrative . However, I found his somewhat unusual yet panoramic overview quite enthralling and he fanned a flame of interest that has never been extinguished. This listen similarily paints with broad brushes and gives a marvellous overview. Listen, enjoy and then maybe ask, if this narrative isn't 'history remembered' but a faith story, what is it's deeper meaning, what is its 'more than historical' meaning? O, and by the way, don't forget to laugh!

Very funny and easy to digest! It throws all of the Sunday School stories out of the window.
