Brian Clegg was always fascinated by Isaac Asimov's classic Foundation series of books, in which the future is predicted using sophisticated mathematical modelling of human psychology and behaviour.

Only much later did he realise that Asimov's 'psychohistory' had a real-world equivalent: game theory.

Originating in the study of probabilistic gambling games that depend on a random source - the throw of a dice or the toss of a coin - game theory soon came to be applied to human interactions: essentially, what was the best strategy to win, whatever you were doing? Its mathematical techniques have been applied, with varying degrees of wisdom, to fields such as economics, evolution, and questions such as how to win a nuclear war.

Overall it's a good story, and decently narrated. Would have got 4 stars but it's not really acceptable that this style of book can be released on Audible without the (usually obligatory) PDF to illustrate the numerous charts and figures that are referred to throughout the book. Avoid until a PDF is provided.

Good introduction, albeit more about the history of game theory and some applications than the concepts. Very enthusiastic narrator!

I have tens of Audible titles and very seldom do I buy one that I cannot bear to listen to in its entirety! This is one of those few! Found it very boring and uninspiring. Maybe not suited to an audiobook version as you are frequently asked to look at the various tables! Surprisingly though, those tables are not made available to listeners - unlike properly supported audiobooks which provide a companion pdf file! Not sure what I expected with the title "Game Theory" but certainly didn't expect to give up listening before the end!

This book has no content that describes 'life' at all. My error was buying the book based on the catchy title which gives the false impression that the content draws analogy with life ie a form if life coaching conversation but it does nothing of the sort. if I could get my money back I definitely would try to.
