Özet
'The signs are unmistakable. The dog halts, his nose up – nostrils quivering. Every inch of him is poised. Moss has a scent.’

When a hand is found in Gallows Wood, PC Lucy Halliday and her specialist search dog Moss must find the rest of the body. What they uncover is a killer’s dumping ground. Like every case since her husband’s mysterious disappearance, Lucy wonders if this one will bring her closer to the truth. Nico was a journalist with a reputation for getting buried in his work; Lucy is certain that this time he delved too deep.

With new DI Jack Ellis calling the shots, Lucy struggles to keep her professionalism intact. She can’t stay away from these murders – and a killer who may hold the answers she desperately wants. But with those at the very heart of the investigation withholding secrets of their own, can more brutal deaths be prevented?©2024 Louisa Scarr (P)2024 W.F. Howes Ltd. Follows a search dog handler in the police. A good story but felt the narrator tried too hard with the male voices.

A Good Story

Characters with past issues as per usual, but they are developing nicely. Intricate plot line and well narrated. I'm about to buy the next in the series.

Excellent start to a new series.

Really enjoyed the relationship that grew between the two main characters. I got there with the plot and the 'baddy' before the end, but wasn't at all disappointed about that.

Dark and enjoyable

Gallows Wood: PC Lucy Halliday, Book 1 by Louisa Scarr is a well-written and engaging police procedural. As always, Scarr’s storytelling is detailed, clever, and immersive. The characters are instantly likeable yet layered with real complexity, and she has a real talent for creating believable people you quickly connect with.

I’ve also read Scarr’s books written under her pen name, Sam Holland, which are darker and grittier and kept me completely on edge. While I really enjoyed PC Lucy Halliday (and her dog, Moss!), I think I personally prefer the darker tone of her Sam Holland novels, so I’ll definitely be reading more of those.

That said, I’m very keen to check out the Butler & West series as well. Louisa Scarr is an incredibly talented writer.

A gripping audiobook with compelling narration!!

Gallows Wood: a PC Lucy Halliday, Book 1 is a well-written and good and seemingly well researched on police procedural. As always, Scarr’s storytelling is detailed, clever, and immersive.
