There can be no light without darkness, no hope without despair, no love without heartache

Some scars can't be seen

When the handsome Frederick Mackintosh offers to marry Aggie McLaren, she is certain 'tis greed or insanity that motivates him. Besides land and a chance at a chiefdom, she believes she has nothing to offer. She soon learns nothing could be further from the truth. Hope she thought long lost blooms with her husband's kindness, his honor, and his fierce determination to make their marriage and their clan a success.

Sometimes perfection is imperfect

Aggie McLaren is not Frederick Mackintosh's image of the perfect wife. She isn't well read, vivacious, or voluptuous. Wee, timid, and unable to speak, it is a glimpse of her smile and the chance to be chief of his own clan that propels him to offer for her hand. Frederick will do whatever he must in order to see her smile again and to help her find her voice.

I really did enjoy this story and liked the characters involved. I confess I went through a few instances of wanting to jump forward as some of the descriptions were too long and didn’t add to the story or atmosphere; it’s a personal thing I know.
The narration was reasonable.

Overall a good book

What disappointed you about Frederick's Queen?

I expected an easy listen, not a recovery story from abuse. Also it was very repetitive and a lot of needless death and suffering.

What will your next listen be?

Probably Book four of the Roxton Saga. I decided to skip book three, because I do not think I would like it.

Did Brad Wills do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

I had no trouble knowing the difference between the characters, but was not overly fond of the way he did the boy.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It was easy to follow, scenes you where waiting for did come and were not skimmed over.

Any additional comments?

I did listen to the whole, but can not really say why.

This book should come with a warning
