Mysterious tech, a devious AI and a couple of scientists in over their heads collide in the latest sci-fi adventure from the number one best-selling author of the Bobiverse series.

Physicist Philip Moray is having a good day. He’s chipping away at his big work project. The lunch in the cafeteria is at least edible. And he’s looking forward to his end-of-the-day drink and a soak in the hot tub.

Then, a strange device turns up in his office. A piece of technology he has never seen before–and shouldn’t even exist.

Suddenly, corpses start turning up, eco-activists go on the attack, random people suffer bizarre symptoms. And every time the authorities get a lead, it traces right back to Philip and his colleague, Celia Hunt.

Then, a mysterious caller contacts Philip–and, suddenly, staying out of jail is the very least of his problems.

Apparently, that hot tub’s going to have to wait.

I quite enjoyed Bobiverse, and was thrilled to see a new book release. This one has all sorts of elements that I hadn’t expected so much, a bit of futurism and AI, detective work and crimefighting, and small pockets of introspection about what it means to be human.

I really enjoyed this one. The beginning started off a bit strange, as it’s not immediately obvious how the prologue connects to the start of the story, but all the puzzle pieces have a satisfying click as they connect throughout the book, especially at the end.

I did suspect a couple of the twists, based on the subtle foreshadowing, but they were satisfying reveals anyway. Hoping for an Easter egg for this book in the next Bobiverse, as it would be a nice nod

Another Dennis E. Taylor captivator!

Great story, but oh so annoying in places I nearly returned the book. Not sure if the following can be called spoilers, but err on the side of caution if you want...

What do you do when humanity is in peril and you have information which could help thwart it? Nope, keep it to yourself.

What do you do when someone is trying to kill you? Nope, just go about your usual business, don't take any special measures and definitely don't report it.

Also, be so very slow to make connections despite being highly qualified and top in your field, so presumably not normally as dumb as a cushion.

I like the narrator and he is very good at male voices and inflections, but unfortunately all female voices sound exactly the same and I wasn't sure who was actually speaking sometimes.

Apart from that and a few minor irritants with character reactions it was an interesting story and well read.

shame a couple of characters reacted so unrealisticly

Another great book by this author. The narrator is magnificent as always. Without giving away spoilers, readers of other titles by the same author might enjoy drawing parallels between these books.
please give us more books asap x

The plot moved on but the characters were not as interesting or novel as in some of the other series.

Not as quickly engaging as I had hoped.
