A heist by the Serenity crew goes badly wrong in a captivating original Firefly tie-in novel from the award-winning series by Titan Books.

City of sin

Neapolis: a desert city on planet Bethel where all manner of entertainment is found: High-stakes gambling, luxurious hotels, exclusive clubs, and any form of diversion imaginable may be had for a price. It’s the eve of the annual carnival: three days of decadent revelry, and Serenity arrives to take a security job, guarding a costly shipment.

An unattainable ransom

Tragedy strikes: The shipment is stolen, and the wealthy owner kidnaps Zoë and Book, holding them to ransom for the lost shipment’s value. If Mal can’t find the enormous sum of 500 platinum by the next evening, both of them will be killed.

A race against time

As the carnival begins, the crew must attempt the impossible, calling on contacts, calling in favors, and revealing hidden talents to save their crewmates’ lives. Meanwhile, the hostages have their own plans....

Most of this was great, very exciting, lots of action, and difficult situations to resolve. However during the last 45 minutes or so, it just fizzled out rather weakly.
The reader was very good as always.

Not the best.

Where as the first 5 books seem to follow one another, this story is set between episodes of the original series. It shows a really different story and helps you get to know the characters you love even better. As with all the audio books in this series the voices are performed beautifully by James Anderson Foster and it has been a delight to revisit the ‘verse through these lovely exciting and brilliant stories.

A different direction for the 6th book

An excellent listen with plenty of action, thrills, and spills. It's great to see how this band of disparate misfits can gel together for good. I Definitely recommend listening to it.

A thoroughly enjoyable audiobook

easily the best book of this series and set before the end of the TV show so could easily be read out of sequence.

best book of the series.

Such a great book, a lot less dark than some of the other books in this series, but still with sufficient peril to keep the story tense.

Nice to see Inara and the Shepherd have such prominent roles as well.

As ever, wonderfully read.
