Goethe's masterpiece and perhaps the greatest work in German literature, Faust has made the legendary German alchemist one of the central myths of the Western world. Here indeed is a monumental Faust, an audacious man boldly wagering with the devil, Mephistopheles, that no magic, sensuality, experience or knowledge can lead him to a moment he would wish to last forever.

Editör yorumları

The protagonist of Goethe's masterpiece has become one of the most enduring and well-known characters in Western literature. Faust, in his ambition, makes an arrangement with the devil Mephistopheles: Mephistopheles will do everything Faust desires while the alchemist lives, and in exchange, Faust will serve the devil in Hell after his death. The arrangement hinges on the catch that if Faust encounters a moment that he wishes will last forever, he will die in that moment. Narrator Tim Habeger's Faust is world-weary and cynical, and Habeger's low-key performance avoids theatrics, instead providing a solid interpretation of Goethe's work.

This is one of the less well-known literary works that is a great part of the Western canon. It is superbly performed in this edition and the translation is fantastic and enjoyable to listen to. Recommended to all.

I looove the way it's read, reminds me of Ginsberg at poetry reading. And this is the way it's supposed to be read, because it's in verse and it's a play, very appropriate. We read old greek verses the same way in university. Thank you for this experience.

Amazing read

Absolutely loathe the American drawl that feels totally incongruous. Narrator also stresses many of the wrong syllables and mangles the meter. Takes all the beauty out of the language. I do not recommend this version. The one narrated by Jack Wynter is vastly superior - I think it is a better translation also.

Utterly ruined by narration

it's like when I get a new book and read it to my kids for the first time - you know when you don't know where to put the emphasis on certain words and you haven't worked out what the different characters should sound like yet? That's this.

No, this didn’t do it for me! The American accent and the extremely passionate reading made me think I was listening to a drunk drama student. I didn’t manage more than five minutes.
