DS Siyal's first day. The worst first day.

DS Rakesh Siyal is an idealist. Frustrated as an Edinburgh human rights lawyer, he joins the police, determined to solve the problems he sees with the criminal justice system from the inside, rather than out. His first day as a cop sees him sent down to Galashiels in the Scottish Borders, where he’s given a simple task – return a suspect to Glasgow to face justice. But when the suspect escapes on Rakesh’s watch, can he track down a brutal murderer in countryside he’s never visited in his life? Will his first day on the job prove to be a false start? False Start is a prequel to the DI Rob Marshall series, starring a haunted detective who masks his trauma with biting humor. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Stuart MacBride, JD Kirk and LJ Ross.

A good introduction to Rikesh, I enjoyed the story and it explained the background to his relationship with Andrea Elliot. His perspective is different to his die hard colleagues which ultimately helps the case.

A good prequel but too short

I thought it was a good short story which helps us understand DS Rakesh Siyal a little more. It obviously covers in detail how he got his nickname of “Shunty”, plus his first meeting & day with the “BallBreaker” Boss …. she’s harsh.

Good stuff

Great narration but I found the story line a little poor, it certainly didn't grab you and keep you guessing. It was flat for want of a better word not sure I'll carry on with this series.

A little flat
