The thrilling new historical adventure in the Warrior of Rome series from Sunday Times bestseller Harry Sidebottom.

AD 265, Gaul - The Roman Empire is on the brink.

Emperor Gallienus has amassed a huge army across the Alps to seize back the mountains from the usurper Posthumus.

War has come.

Ballista and his cavalry are on the frontline, battling in the most brutal of conditions. But if he is to survive the campaign and finally retire to his beloved Sicily, it's not just the battlefield he needs to navigate.

As he and Praetorian Prefect Volusianus lay siege to Posthumus' armies, it becomes clear the greatest threat to Ballista's life might just come from within his ranks. After all, Volusianus has shown he will go to any distance for his own ends. Is Ballista just another pawn in his game?

Harry’s gift for storytelling is exceptional, in a one or two author league. Coupled with Dugald’s narration, Balista is brought to life (there is even a hint of an accent when Balista is in dialogue). Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Harry & Dugald, the perfect fit

This story carries on from the others, the only thing that I felt let it down was the narrator. He didn't come over as well as the person who had done the previous one. But I did enjoy the the story

A good read

This book gets the series back on track and the story is very good. Unfortunately the narrator still does not say names and items correctly compared to every other Roman novel. The narrator is clearly talented but needs to know the way to say things before recording. Disappointing to the point where I will not purchase the next audiobook.

Better story poor narration

I’m afraid to say that I’ve stopped listening to this. I’m several hours in but am unable to get into the storyline because of the awful narration. It’s rushed with no real emphasis or style. It’s so disappointing having followed the series from the start. As others have said, why on earth change narrator?
