Even for an average citizen, a love triangle is dangerous business. For assassin John Rainn - "one of the most compelling lead characters in the genre" (USA Today) it's going to be downright deadly.

When Rain learns that his former lover, Midori, has been raising their child in New York, Rain senses a chance for reconciliation, perhaps even for redemption. But Midori and the child are being watched by Rain's enemies, and Rain's sudden appearance puts them in terrible danger. To save them, Rain is forced to use the same deadly talents he had been hoping to leave behind. With the help of Tatsu, his one-time nemesis in the Japanese FBI; and Dox, the former Marine sniper whose good ol' boy persona masks a killer as deadly as Rain himself, Rain races against time to bring his enemies into the open and eliminate them forever. But to finish the job, he'll need one more ally: Mossad operative Delilah, a woman for whom Rain's hopes with Midori represent an altogether different kind of threat....

I could not finish this book quickly enough. it is absolutely excellent. The narration is first class and just makes the whole experience more enjoyable. it's up there with one of the best books I've listened to.

As a final note Dox is one of my favourite characters in anything I've watched or read - he's absolutely brilliant. We all need a Dox!

Absolutely outstanding

The John Rain series of books gets better and better. The author reads his own work brilliantly. I really care about the main characters now and despite the extreme violence which punctuates the books and the fascinating detailed explanations of an assassin's tradecraft, it is the complex relationships, themes of conflicting loyalties and emerging comradeship that underpin the story which make Extremis in particular - and the John Rain books in general - so compelling. I will certainly be reading and listening to the next tale soonest!

A gripping episode in this series

We are certainly on a long narrative arc with the John Rain series. I find myself lost in each plot, losing time and a sense of place in my reverie. I’ve learned so much and now fully understand the importance of the author reading his own source material after I previously listened to his books by other narrators.
Please take the time to read this series in order. They are excellent, insightful and quasi educational in their own way. His list of side characters are not mere bit part players but fully fledged heroes, worthy of their own book series too, not just a short novella.
Enjoy.

Perfection

Characterization keeps getting better, not a super man, fallible characters, great action with a bit of geo politics thrown in.
