The throne of England is slipping from King Henry’s grasp. His only son has drowned in the English Channel and the predators are gathering ready to devour both England and Normandy. When the last of King Harold’s Housecarls returns to England to die he brings with him a reluctant hero who will save the kingdom. Alfraed, son of Ridley, is the first of a new breed, he is an English Knight. English Knight is a fast moving audiobook set in that most turbulent of times, The Anarchy. Filled with action and battles this is the first in a series of chronicles painting a picture of a bloody time in English history when the only people you could rely on were your household warriors and you slept with a dagger beneath your bed.©2015 Griff Hosker (P)2022 W. Great idea, and awesome choice of time period. Well written and performed, although a little formulaic early on

Good introduction to a new series

I am fan of Bernard Cornwell's series and it looks like that the author of this book likes them too. I think, he decided to create the new "English history hero", then, and he has chosen even more interesting times for his saga.
I like the story, even if it is far from Cornwell's mastery. Therefore, I am going to stay with Alfred of Norton and get another book in the series, hoping that the author will be better and better at his craft - just as his hero is.

The beginning of Cornwell-like saga?

A spoiled, pampered well educated son of last of King Harold’s Housecarls returns to England with great reluctance. He grew up in Constantinople where his father served the Emperor. Accompanying him and his father are 4 of his old warrior comrades. As they travel through Europe; these old warriors help the son to become a new man. Although, he has had the best of military training and great Armor; he had never been tested in battle. This first book, in a new series taking place after the Norman invasion, introduces us to an amazing new hero. Griff has a true tested formula to keep you riveted to the story. I could not put the book down. When I finished, I immediately check out audible to see when the sequel will be available. Fortunately, it will only be two weeks. Highly recommended!

Griff Hosker does it again! Great Book!
