Cousin to Elizabeth I - and possibly Henry VIII's illegitimate granddaughter - Lettice Knollys had a life of dizzying highs and pitiful lows.

Entangled in a love triangle with Robert Dudley and Elizabeth I, banished from court, plagued by scandals, embroiled in treason, Lettice would lose a husband and son to the executioner's ax. In the first ever biography of this remarkable woman, Nicola Tallis takes us through her dramatic life and the grand sweep of the Tudor Age and the events that define it.

The first two thirds of the book contained too many maybe and perhaps (perhaps she saw this). By the end there were more actual facts appearing. Loved the reader will be looking at more books read by Charlotte Strevens.

I liked all of the book . Very interesting . Shame I can’t remember all the facts but it’s not necessary really . Full of history. Loved it

It was great to have a different take on Elizabeth I and what happened during/after her reign. I really enjoyed getting to know Lettice

I am sorry to say that the reader makes several glaring errors in the reading. At one point she claims Chartley Castle was built in 2020 rather than 1220, and Leicester and Lettice’s names get mixed up in several places, presumably because they both start with L. At one point she says Leicester marries himself! It’s a brilliant book and the mistakes can be understood in context but it did spoil it a little for me. Especially since these mistakes should have been picked up in editing! Just doesn’t seem like anyone listened to it all the way before selling it to the public. I will say she reads clearly and has a lovely voice.
Otherwise the book is a thorough and detailed account of the life of a fascinating woman. You can tell her story matters a great deal to the writer and how important it is to her that Lettice’s story is told!
