In Derry, Maine, four young boys once stood together and did a brave thing. Something that changed them in ways they hardly understand.

A quarter of a century later, the boys are men who have gone their separate ways. Though they still get together once a year, to go hunting in the north woods of Maine. But this time is different. This time a man comes stumbling into their camp, lost, disoriented and muttering about lights in the sky.

Before long, these old friends will be plunged into the most remarkable events of their lives as they struggle with a terrible creature from another world. Their only chance of survival is locked in their shared past - and in the Dreamcatcher.

Despite the imaginative sci-fi story line this is another Stephen King book that rambled on unnecessarily without adding to the overall plot, in fact to the point of diluting it. Although Stephen King books are longer than most, as he explores all the characters, for me he just over did it yet again to the point that it became a chore, an effort to finish. I just lost interest. Sometimes, less is more, and this is a classic example.

Not one of the better SK stories

This book has many of the classic King hallmarks, especially the group of friends whose backstory is gradually filled in as the story proceeds. The return to Derry is also a welcome boon for fans of It, while the narration is on point. Unfortunately, the whole thing just does not come together in the same manner as King's other, similar tales, so the ending is both unclear and underwhelming. It's a lovely journey for most of the story but, ultimately, it just does not end up going anywhere exciting.

Dwindles out at the end.

Gave the book a good go. But right at the very end, the book cuts short!! never had this before. Disappointed!

Didn't get it!

loved it as with all stephen kings ive listened to but this one lost me at times, it jumped forward and back a few times, which when listening with children in the background can get confusing. but on a whole a fantastic story of friendship and the connection a special group of people can have, also a creative different spin on 'other life forms'.

brilliant king as always

Would you consider the audio edition of Dreamcatcher to be better than the print version?

i havent read the print version but the narrator in this was perfect, made it very atmospheric.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character was Henry, , I really felt that I got to know him. His outlook on life changed so dramatically as we went along, you didnt know wether he would end up back where he had started after all the trials he went through.

What about Jeffrey DeMunn’s performance did you like?

Perfect

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both, lots of laugh out loud moments, the mens boyhood conversations were hilarious in places....and sad with some of the outcomes, the bravery and friendship.

Any additional comments?

I love Stephen Kings novels, his imagination for the bizarre scenario is amazing and keeps you guessing til the end.

gripping
