From the #1 Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author of Arcana Academy comes the first in a new, heart-pounding fantasy duology, about a young woman who must survive a score of brutal tests and trials to escape her cursed fate.

The moment you see a dragon is usually your last...

Since the dragons emerged - along with the scourge that ravaged our lands and people - there's only one human city that remains standing: Vingard.

But the hellfire from above is nothing compared to the threat from within. For there is no worse fate than being Dragon Cursed. Slowly and excruciatingly, you'll be transformed into a mindless beast who destroys everything - and everyone - you love.

Any of us could be tainted. Any of us could be lying. Any of us could be caught and killed by the authorities. And I'm terrified that I might be next.

There's only one other person who might suspect my secret. He's like my shadow, following me wherever I go. Part protector, part tormentor, fully annoying. Sometimes I think I am just one of the million unfathomable secrets he keeps hidden.

Because Lucan definitely knows something.

And if I'm Dragon Cursed, death might be the only mercy I get.©2026 Elise Kova (P)2026 Hodder & Stoughton Limited Dragons & Mythical Creatures Fantasy Literature & Fiction Science Fiction & Fantasy Kurgu Ejderhalar Samimi Paranormal

Pulse-pounding romance, vivid world-building, and badass dragon hunters make for a bloodthirsty and brutally fun read. The stakes couldn't be higher - I devoured every page. This is the YA fantasy I've been waiting for!
Kova delivers a solid start to a new romantasy series with detailed worldbuilding, an intriguing plot, and a compelling main character. The first-person narration draws readers in quickly, and the complexity of the fantasy elements will appeal to existing genre fans, while the romance has the potential to bring in new readers

The narrator did an ok job. She didn't use much variation in voices for the characters, which was disappointing. 🎧

Although rather repetitive, especially regarding the vicar and the dragon scar, I think this story had potential. I'm hopeful that book 2 will hone in on saving the dragons and the people, moving the story forward more and less on repetition.🙏🏼

The start of the romance that was brewing will hopefully pick back up and grow in book 2.😍 His stepfather was vile. Using religion to manipulate people seems very "real world"!😤 The loss towards the end was so sad.😢

Some shocks in the last 30 minutes!😱

The incessant repetition of information already provided was tedious and the FMC making glaringly obvious errors was beyond comprehension and frustrating. This has felt like double the time duration of the book and if this is a series, my interest stops here.

Tedious

I don’t even know if I could have liked this story - I had to DNF by the final chapters due to the horrific narration. Robotic voice - odd narration style and boring inflection. No difference between character voices made it hard to follow. Disappointing. I have the hardback so will perhaps give this another go at some point.

Awful Narration
