Özet

My first read by Beck Lewis, I listened on Audible, but it won’t be the last. Turn the page and you are in. The story captivates you right up to the end. I understand this is the first of a series. I will look forward to the next.
Perdita Lawton narration was a credit to the author. A well matched team.

Really enjoyed the twisting nature of the plot as well as the ingenuity in the characterisation. Perdita Lawton reads it superbly well, bringing each character to life with an individual voice full of nuance an expression. No easy feat. Really helps to generate sympathy for the good characters and disdain for the bad ones. Looking forward to getting the next in the series as this one was superb.

Double Take is a gritty, fast-paced dive into urban fantasy that really leans into paranoia. The "shadow" concept is genuinely unsettling, and Lewis does a great job of making you question every character's identity.
The tricky part, especially if you’re listening to the audiobook, is the shifting first-person perspective. Switching "I" from one character to another between chapters can be disorienting and a bit messy if you aren't paying close attention. However, the narrator absolutely saves the experience—the range of dialects is impressive and helps you distinguish who’s who when the plot gets complicated.
It's a solid, dark read, but probably easier to follow in print than on audio unless you’re a very focused listener.
