Stolen whisky, drug dealers, bent cops, social influencers and yakuza mobsters. And Robbie Gould is caught in the middle.

1964. A hoard of the finest Scotch whisky ever made – the legendary Dalziel Double Proof – goes missing.

2023. Albie, youngest son of the wealthy Dalziel family, vanishes. His desperate mother turns to Robbie Gould, a disgraced reporter with a reputation as a 'psychic crimebuster'.

Broke and unemployed, Gould is in no position to turn down the job. He throws himself into a twisted chain of criminals, bent cops and Japanese gangsters, but when someone fires a shotgun through his door, he realises he doesn't need supernatural powers to see how deadly the situation has become.

'This is the kind of zany novel in which a dope-dealer’s dogs are not dobermans but miniature dachshunds, and a family of gangsters are called the Sangsters. Fans of graphic comedy ? as purveyed by Chris Brookmyre and Stuart MacBride ? will love it' -Times

'Relentless pace, katana-sharp humour and an endearingly irascible protagonist make Double Proof irresistibly entertaining' - Chris Brookmyre

'A slick slice of Tartan Noir. With indelible characters and a satisfying plot . . . the book is knitted together expertly with pathos and humour to offset the gritty action within the pages' - Stuart Johnstone©2024 Martin Stewart (P)2024 W.F. What a romp! This story was so well written and brilliantly narrated. The action, mostly set in and around Glasgow, certainly held my attention. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, a far departure from his YA books. I believe that a second in the series is in some pipeline, something to look forward to.

Loved all of this

Leavened with crumbs of humour amid the grimmer aspects of kidnapping and assault. Our magnificent anti hero journeys through the story often in inadequate footwear. Highly enjoyable.

An oblique journey through the central belt.

I really enjoyed this mystery. The Scottish accent sounds authentic and the characterisation is good and develops throughout the plot. Scottish sarcasm is used to develop wit and lighten the mood. Would recommend

I haven’t enjoyed a Scottish crime writer as much as I have enjoyed Martin Stewart’s work. I mean to say, I love Scottish crime/procedurals. Scottish writers have the knack. This book has a bit of everything - intelligence, humour, intrigue and so much more. The success of the story hinged on the fantastic reader. I’m onto the next book. Please write more Martin Stewart.
