A Breton princess at the peak of the French Renaissance, Lilac lives prisoner in her parents' castle after a wicked secret is revealed on the eve of her 10th birthday soirée. Years later, her coronation ceremony looms, and between the riotous townsfolk and scheming nobleman bent on snatching the throne, Lilac prepares for the worst...until a mysterious letter arrives from The Witch of Lupine Grotto, detailing a curious offer to cure her darkness forever.

Lilac begrudgingly trades her coronet for a cloak and ventures into the forest Brocéliande in pursuit of the impious enchantress at the edge of town. With only the protection of an inherited dagger - and unsolicited help of the gregarious stranger who inserts himself on her quest - she must traverse Brocèliande and return in time to claim her rightful position as sovereign monarch.

This is the story of a cursed princess, a crestfallen killer, the town that wants them to burn, and the witch that can save them both.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, the romance and idea of a dark magical forest full of creatures. The ending felt a little rushed, but still very enjoyable. I definitely wouldn't mind spending more time in this world! The narration was really well done, at times it felt a little robotic (when describing things), but I loved the dialogues and how she voiced the characters.

Enchanting read

I really enjoyed this book, I thought Lilac was a wonderful lead character and I loved watching her grow and develop on her journey.

I loved that even when she thought everything was lost and she was completely powerless she never really gave in, a part of her was always wondering, trying to think of the next step and not always to save herself but those she had come to care for.

I loved her defiance and refusal to be subjected in a world dominated by men. at almost every turn she defied them and their expectations of her and that was really wonderful to see.

I'm excited to see what this author brings us next, her weaving of fantasy and awaking feminist power is beautiful.

Also much praise is due to the narrator who gave all these characters real soul and made them so likeable and the villains villains but without feeling like panto. Absolutely brilliant job. I look forward to hearing more excellent books narrated by you.

the only draw back to this book is that we are introduced to a character right at the begining and I would like to know more about him....

Disenchanted is a wonderfully written fantasy with an intricate plot, imaginative worldbuilding, and unique and diverse characters. The storyline is well-developed, a bit slow-moving, but intriguing, enchanting, adventurous, unpredictable and wrapped in mystery. The author, Brianna Sugalski is creative and did a phenomenal job capturing her readers/listeners' attention, initiating anticipation in her audience. She is a talented storyteller, and I very much enjoyed listening to her book.

Krys Janae did an outstanding job with the narration. She captured the nuances of the various personalities while breathing life into the characters and story. Overall, Disenchanted is a fascinating tale, well-written and enjoyable, one I'll recommend.
