“Mr. Kendall, in the past few months there have been a number of doctors who have mysteriously disappeared, or whose deaths were either alleged to be accidents, or were suicides, or they were actually murdered.”

Kendall made a mental note to find out about these "other doctors".

“A number of doctors you said. How many are we talking about?”

Mrs. Eaton thought for a few moments.

“To my knowledge there have been at least eight cases in the past six months. There may be a whole lot more that I know nothing about.”

The author builds up the tension as the book moves steadily on towards its final conclusion, and the reader (well, this reader) is captive from start to finish. Well written. Good narration.

Another marvellous murder mystery from John Holt

Our intrepid private investigator is struggling to find the reason for a series of doctors deaths. The police have several down as accidental but Kendall brings these into doubt. Behind the deaths is the research and marketing of a drug that isn't all it seems. Who is masterminding the killings? An intriguing case, very well narrated.

This is a refreshingly straightforward murder mystery novel that keeps moving inexorably to its conclusion, and as usual with works in this genre, we all know that Justice will be served in the end. The fun part is in following the clues, which means that, in this case, we listen in as Kendall himself follows the clues. Narrator Mark Sando is perfect in adopting a rather friendly and laid-back manner; oddly enough, this rather casual delivery makes the cold-blooded actions of the murderer(s) seem even more abhorrent.

Recommended to those readers/listeners who enjoy detective novels that deliberately avoid making long, unnecessary detours into irrelevant scenes/subplots.
