Another thrilling case featuring Detective Inspector Geraldine Steel.

When the corpse of Abigail Kirby is discovered, the police are shocked to learn that the victim's tongue was cut out while she lay dying. Then, shortly after coming forward, a witness to the crime is blinded and murdered. Abigail Kirby's teenage daughter runs away from home to meet a girl who befriended her online; too late, she realises she has made a dreadful mistake - a mistake that may cost her life.

Meanwhile, Detective Inspector Geraldine Steel's flirtation with the pathologist on the case helps her to cope with the stress of finding out she was adopted at birth. Detective Sergeant Ian Peterson uncovers a shocking secret about the serial killer who has been mutilating his murder victims. But does the sergeant's discovery come too late to save Geraldine Steel from a similar dreadful fate?

I absolutely loved 'Cut Short' the first in Leigh Russell's Geraldine Steel series and was very excited to find a new author and police procedural series. However, I have now listened to book 2 and this, book 3 and have been hugely disappointed. The plot and characterisations are extremely thin, there is no real suspense and I found myself wanting to fast forward to the end. However, Steel remains a likeable character and the series is very well narrated, I feel that Russell can live up to the expectations generated by Book 1 so I will definitely listen to the fourth book in the series.

A great continuation for Geraldine with a white roomed horror! A great listen and I can’t wait until the next book.

Hooked after the first book!

I enjoyed this book , the performance was good , sometimes it seems some female narrators are not very successful at the male character voices , but Lucy Price- Lewis is successful!

Will definitely look for more by Leigh Russell
