The gripping crime thriller from the number one best seller.

An explosive fire. A double murder. And that’s just the start.

When DCI Michael Lambert is called out to an apparent house fire, he knows it can’t be routine. Instead he finds the remains of a burnt house, a traumatised child and two corpses - one of whom is a senior police officer.

Lambert’s got other problems. Anti-corruption are onto his boss. His relationship is on the rocks. He can’t get over his ex-wife and he keeps blacking out.

But when a detective has been murdered the stakes are too high to get distracted. All is not as it seems. As the investigation continues Lambert realises he is getting drawn into something altogether bigger and more terrifying than he could ever have imagined...

Trust no one.

Gripping, chilling to its core, and full of twists, the powerful new DCI Michael Lambert from Matt Brolly is perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Helen H. Durrant, and Michael Hambling.

I like this series a lot. The characters are interesting, Lambert is a bit irritating in his personal relationships, but the plots are intriguing and complicated enough to keep me guessing. I’ve already downloaded the next one, and keeping my fingers crossed for more. David Monteath is one of the best narrators, so much so I sometimes use his name to search for new stories. Highly recommended

…In the series. Love the characters but the end was rather a shock. Not what I’d expect from Lambert at all. Excellent narration as always. Off to read the last in the series.

Another brilliant book

Very good series and I highly recommend it. Couple of things seemed a tad ‘odd’, but I’m still looking forward to the next book.
David Monteath narrates with ease.

Good Series

it's the narration that keeps this interesting because the storyline and plot are farfetched and a bit 'silly' this is the first in the series I've found disappointing.

Really good story. Hard to stop listening to as it takes you in an unexpected direction in the story line. Apart from the Scottish accent of the narrator which I find weird when it’s not set in Scotland, this is well worth a listen. Enjoying this author and will listen to all the DCI Lambert series.
