Meet Detective Inspector Zoe Finch. She's ambitious, determined, and damaged. And she's about to uncover evidence that could make her career... or get her sacked.

Zoe is the newest DI in West Midland Police's Force CID unit, which investigates serious crime. In her first case, she must investigate the murder of the force's former Assistant Chief Constable, who just retired.

Zoe and her team solve the case, with help from her boss DCI Lesley Clarke (who you might know from the Dorset Crime series)... but then it leads them to evidence of corruption in the West Midlands force. Can Zoe uncover the corrupt officers while keeping her team safe and avoiding accusations of corruption herself?

In these seven books, explore Zoe's quest to find the truth and rid Birmingham of its most unpleasant criminals... and coppers.

Rachel McLean is a wonderful story teller. You really get a feel for the characters and the twists and turns are challenging. Characters crop up across all her series which makes them feel familiar the moment you start reading. Absolutely recommend.

Great set of stories

Liked the characters but disliked the somewhat overdone good guy against the angry boss.
Jan Cramer is good at character voices but does tend to overdo the sad/frustrated/ tired voices

Some predictable storylines but also some interesting and exciting moments.

The stories in the box set improve as they go along. Each is inter-related but can be listened to alone.

The structuring of the books into very short chapters is very tedious, with the narrator’s deep breath then the announcement’chapter…’ every 2-6 minutes. But eventually I found it possible to ignore these.

The underlying stories are good and not too graphic though verging into conspiracy land.
The narrator keeps a good pace and identifies the main characters without being too noticeably brummie.

Gets better with each story

I enjoyed these books. I liked the characters and storylines. I found the narration clear and I liked the accents.

Enjoyable series

I enjoyed these stories and am sad I’ve now finished them all. That being said, it took me until about the 4th book to be okay with the narration. Not sure she was the best fit for multiple characters. Good easy listen stories, though.

A good listen overall
