How do you keep the people you care about safe from enemies you can’t remember? Ten years ago, Nate Garrett awoke on a cold warehouse floor with no memory of his past and the only clues to his identity were a piece of paper with his name on it and a propensity toward magic. Now he’s a powerful sorcerer and a successful thief for hire, but it turns out that those who stole his memories aren’t done with him yet. When they cause a job to go bad, threatening a sixteen-year-old girl, Nate swears to protect her. But with his enemies closing in and the barrier holding back his memories beginning to crumble, Nate is forced to confront his forgotten life in the hope of stopping an enemy he can’t remember. Crimes Against Magic is a dark, fast-paced urban fantasy torn between modern-day London and fifteenth-century France.

I love the story! I love the characters. I love the reader! Unexpected stuff happened. I love the idea about living through the centuries, I listened to this one and immediately bought the second one, which is as good! Waiting for the next book...

Soooo good!

Listened to the whole thing and the plot is satisfactory and the way the magic works is interesting-ish. It's odd to see the author make references to real world things like cities and brands etc; breaks the immersion for me a little when I'm reading Fantasy. Especially when there were several references to specific gun and car names which went completely over my head. The main character is reminiscent of James Bond with his cocky attitude and womanising personality; it didn't really grow on me. To be honest I didn't grow to like any of the characters and they're mostly quite forgettable.
A solid 3/5, it wasn't bad but I won't be continuing the series.

Not bad, wouldn't necessarily recommend

I liked the zipping back and forth from past to present, especially with the protagonist's memory being M.I.A.

Mini spoiler alert? The plan to have a self discovery tale ahead of the other books given who the character is, was quite clever. It definitely worked to get me to buy the next installment.

The narrator was... different and I suppose, interesting. He definitely has a unique manner in which he reads, which took a little getting used to, but it didn't detract from the story at all.

An interesting and engaging style!
