The dead tell no tales . . .

Hollows Bend is a picture-perfect New England town where weekend tourists flock to see fall leaves and eat breakfast at the Stairway Diner. The crime rate – zero – is a point of pride for Sheriff Ellie Pritchett.

The day the stranger shows up is when the trouble starts. The sheriff and her deputy investigate the mysterious teenage girl. None of the locals can place her. She can’t – or won’t – answer any questions. She won’t even tell them her name.

While the girl is in protective custody, the officers are called to multiple crime scenes leading them closer and closer to a lake outside of town that doesn’t appear on any map . . .

PRAISE FOR JAMES PATTERSON

'It's no mystery why James Patterson is the world's most popular thriller writer ... Simply put: nobody does it better.' JEFFERY DEAVER

'No one gets this big without amazing natural storytelling talent - which is what Jim has, in spades.' LEE CHILD

'Patterson boils a scene down to the single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along. It's what fires off the movie projector in the reader's mind.' MICHAEL CONNELLY

Very Stephen king like! Love it. Lots of twists and turns and spindles of story’s lines weaving all together.
Recommend this book. Gritty, mind bending and intriguing. I finished this in one sitting lol.

Didn’t see that coming!

Whether you eventually love this book or hate it, I reckon, depends on how you see the story as a whole. I can't stand an unsatisfactory ending but I don't believe this tale has one. it provides all the artistry, character depth and exciting action of all Patterson's books, and the narration supports the story well. No spoilers here. Read it, James Patterson fans; you'll love it!

Deus ex machina or brilliant twist?

Not a typical James Patterson book and if I’d read it under a different author name I probably would have enjoyed it more.
A decent storyline with some interesting characters but I was thrown by the fact that it wasn’t what you’d expect from a Patterson story.

Strange

You have to give this time, it seems to take ages to get going. I never saw the ending coming. Well narrated.

Slow burner

It was awful - not up to JP’s usual standards - boring and incoherent- I wouldn’t recommend it

Gibberish
