When a groundbreaking theatrical experience goes horribly wrong, a deadly night reveals the dark consequences of blurring the lines between performance and reality.

When Come Knocking came to Los Angeles, the interactive theater production that took over six floors of an abandoned building was met with raves, lines for tickets, and reviews calling it the “must-see experience of a generation.” But after dozens of people were killed and hundreds injured on a bloody night of chaos during the show’s run, the nation was captured by one inescapable question: How could this happen?

As the dust settles, investigative reporter Adam Jakes is tasked with uncovering the truth behind the massacre. Through a series of gripping interviews with survivors, cast members, and witnesses, Jakes pieces together the chilling reality behind what was supposed to be the ultimate theatrical experience.

In Come Knocking, the enthralling and terrifying exploration of human nature under extreme conditions poses unsettling questions about the grotesque underbelly of immersive experiences and the true nature of reality.

I loved this as much as Fantastic Land. The different voices telling the same story that gets gradually pieced together was great. Brutal honesty for sure.

Loved it

Listened to this shortly after FantasticLand; the writing here has a much tighter focus, but to me, that made it seem at times more like a manifesto of its own (particularly the final chapter), and rather trite. But overall a solid listen! Apart from—and this cannot go unmentioned—the excruciating British accent of the male narrator, which is absolute peak Spike from Buffy. Usually I wouldn’t mention it (wobbly accents are common!) but there is a particular character toward the conclusion and I almost had to skip the whole chapter and live in mystery!

Solid variation on a theme

Fantasticland, by the same author, was decent, but this is tighter and lands its points better. The character voices are nicely done and well performed.

It's a nasty series of events, but of the human kind - don't come expecting the supernatural and you'll enjoy the show (pun intended).

Better than Fantasticland

I bought this book on the basis of how much I enjoyed the book fantasticland. Notwithstanding that I enjoyed this book, I was disappointed that this didn’t measure up to the author’s previous book.

Good but not as good as fantasticland.
