Is a killer still on the loose?

The 30th gritty mystery in Quintin Jardine's best-selling Bob Skinner series, not to be missed by listeners of Ian Rankin and Peter May.

Former Chief Constable Bob Skinner may have left the police service, but he's never far from a case. When his old mentor on the force, Jimmy Proud, finds himself in a desperate situation, Skinner gets pulled into a murder investigation that's been closed for 30 years.

The Body in the Quarry case was well-known around Edinburgh at the time: a popular priest found dead in a frozen quarry; a suspect with a clear motive charged; a guilty verdict. But with a journalist uncovering new evidence, the cold case has come back to haunt Proud - and only Skinner can help him.

With the clock ticking and his friend's reputation at stake, Skinner must uncover the truth to find out if an innocent man was convicted for murder. And if a killer is still on the loose....

"Well constructed, fast-paced, Jardine's narrative has many an ingenious twist and turn." (Observer)

Another wonderful book from a great storyteller.

The narrator as usual did a grand job. I recognised the usual charachters as the story started.

Looking forward to the next Bob Skinner thriller!

Full of twists and turns

I have loved Quintin Jardine’s books. Some have been better than others and a few have been outstanding but Skinner is just getting too conceited to bear. I think in his last book a bit of humility was injected into the character but now he needs an intra venous infusion. Come on Mr Jardine - make Skinner more bearable.

Skinner is too smug and self satisfied by far

There were plenty of twists and turns although the ending was mostly predictable. Despite this, overall I enjoyed listening to the book. The main issue I have, and I don't know if it is the writing or the performance of the book, is how dislikable Skinner is, and at times I found this distracting. I understand the classic flawed hero stereotype, but it would be hard to have portrayed a more smug individual. There seemed to be no end to the abilities of this 50-something man, from his golf handicap to everyone agreeing to speak to him to disclose key information or involve him in investigations. I don't think I will be listening to another Skinner book.

Well-paced And Enjoyable Although Predictable
