In Clea, the concluding part of The Alexandria Quartet, Darley returns to Alexandria now caught by war-fever. The conflagration has its effect on his circle - on Nessim and Justine, Balthazar and Clea, Mountolive and Pombal - but a clarity of purpose emerges as the story moves toward its cadence.

The final two books of the Quartet were read by a different narrator who was excellent. However I didn't need the music which felt superfluous and distracting. My husband was reading the paperback and persuaded me to stick with it after the first book in the quartet which I felt was overly descriptive with selfish and unpleasant characters. I'm glad I stuck with it to better understand the characters and plots within plots.
