Carved in Shadows was exactly the kind of forbidden, possessive and emotional MC romance I was hoping for from Trevan and Elena, and these two had me hooked from the very beginning.
Trevan is the Vice President of the Crimson Crows, Elena’s protector, her brother’s best friend and very much the one man he absolutely should not be touching. Which obviously means the chemistry between them is completely impossible to ignore.
Elena has spent so much of her life being protected and watched over, and I loved seeing her finally push for some independence and the chance to live her own life. The only problem is Trevan is never going to let her do that without making sure she is safe, which lands them living together and trying very badly to pretend there is nothing between them.
Spoiler alert, that was never going to last.
The tension between these two was so good. Trevan has wanted Elena for far longer than he is willing to admit, but loyalty to her brother and the club has always kept him firmly in check. Elena, on the other hand, knows exactly what she wants and is definitely not afraid to test every ounce of his self-control.
I loved how protective and completely gone Trevan was for her. He is grumpy, dangerous, morally grey and ruthless when it comes to anyone threatening Elena, but underneath all of that is a man who would sacrifice everything for her.
Once they finally give in, there is no going back, and I loved watching all those years of buried feelings finally come crashing to the surface.
There is also plenty of danger, suspense and secrets surrounding the Crimson Crows, and when Elena becomes a target, Trevan goes straight into full protective mode. I really liked that even with everything happening around them, the emotional connection between Trevan and Elena stayed at the heart of the story.
Their history made everything between them feel deeper because this was never just a sudden attraction. These feelings had been there for years, and finally watching them stop fighting what was between them made their story even better.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Andi Arndt and Austin Stone, and they were fantastic as Elena and Trevan. Andi brought so much strength, emotion and warmth to Elena, while Austin completely nailed Trevan’s darker, protective and possessive energy. Their performances made the chemistry and tension between these two even better.
Carved in Shadows gave me forbidden romance, forced proximity, protective MC energy, danger, spice and a hero who would burn everything down for the woman he loves.
Definitely a 4.5 star read for me.
