Carrhae is the fourth installment in the Parthian Chronicles, the adventures of King Pacorus of Dura, and follows on from Parthian Vengeance.

The great Parthian Civil War is over, leaving behind an empire exhausted by years of bloodshed. But no sooner have hostilities ended than Armenia, the client state of Rome, declares war on the empire and unleashes its army against Parthia. Even Dura’s mighty army cannot stave off a series of defeats as the enemies of Parthia circle the empire like hungry wolves. And Pacorus knows that Marcus Licinius Crassus is also marching east to extend Rome’s rule from the Euphrates to the Indus and enslave the whole of Parthia. The scene is set for a final showdown on the battlefield of Carrhae, a clash that will decide the destinies of two empires and two men.

A map of the Parthian Empire at the time of Pacorus (the 1st century BC) can be found on the maps page of my website.

I confess that when the book had ended I had to say farewell to a magnificent man. I had a tear in my eye and the death of the man left me saddened. I know not why.

I have emailed Peter, publishing houses, and drove audible mad with requests after the first 3 books to make more of this writers work available on audio, and now write my review with wet eyes.
it takes a while to adapt to a new narrator but if book 5 is produced I'll be pleased if Nezar continues.
the story of carrhae most of us know ,but fiction writers adapt thier characters into history and Peter is one of the best, its also great to learn from his research of a nation others ignore or the overwhelming amount of roman stories.
the battles are gruesome and heroic, but the detail in conversation, daily life, and the scenery are what make you feel like you're there,
awe-inspiring, mesmerising, captivating, true genius.

long wait, worthwhile

This whole series was the best series I've read since the Genghis Khan books by Con Iggluden.
